TAKE TO THE TRAILS - 2 HOURS

Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 'Nanaimo' Fifth St to Aulds/Hammond Bay Rd

Tuesday/Thursday: 'Cedar' Yellowpoint Rd to Sixth St

Minimum attendance of once per week is required.

Your dog will be picked up in the morning between 7:30am-9:30am in our 'decked out for dogs' Mercedes E-Sprinter. Drop off is between approximately 12pm-3pm.

They will ride in RuffLand Kennels as we pick up the rest of the team, a strong emphasis on relaxing and quiet in the van. As we reach the day's wilderness destination, the theme of respect continues on trail, along with a healthy dose of fun of course! Your dog will be reinforced for checking in, recall, holding sit/down stays and more.

We operate on a 'positive first' training basis, offering tasty treats for awesome behaviour and setting expectations for trail manners. We are open to a variety of tools and methods, although some may not be suitable for use on trail. The enjoyment and safety of all hikers is our highest priority.

We accept intact male and female puppies under one year, and those older on a case by case basis for a small surcharge. Females must not hike for 4 weeks from initial day of each heat.

*Your dog will be required to attend at least two Train for the Trail sessions prior to joining the pack. If they have attended a professional board & train program, have excellent training, or have been with another dog walker and have sufficient skills, this may be waived.

TRAIN FOR THE TRAILS - 1 HOUR

Not only do we train your dog, we pick them up and drop them off too!

Offered in the early afternoon, your dog will be picked up from your home between approximately 12-3pm. Training starts from the moment they enter the van, learning how to ride calmly and share space with other dogs. Drop off is around 3-5pm.

In focused groups of up to 4 client dogs, we head to the trails. Here we spend an hour or more working on all the skills which go into making a successful pack hike member, not to mention an upstanding canine citizen in general!

We cover basic obedience such as leash walking in a pack and sit/stays, as well as recall, confidence and appropriate dog-dog interactions.

We are experienced in both positive and balanced training methods. Tools used during training include a martingale collar (excluding those with medical reasons for a harness), a leash and treat rewards. Any other tools used will be with owner's prior consent.

*Attendance of at least two sessions is compulsory for all dogs wanting to join our Take to the Trails program. This gives a low pressure introduction to the pack environment and allows us to get to know each other, and ensure we can communicate!
